Microsoft released Security Patch KB5094126 on June 9, 2026. After this, thousands of Windows 11 users are getting Error Code 0x800f0922.
Microsoft admitted that because of small EFI Partition in old PCs, Update is failing. The company said they will send Auto‑Fix Tool in the next Patch. Till then follow these 3 steps.
What happened with me?
To tell the truth friends, last night my condition became bad.
It was already 11:15 at night. When I had finished my Deadline work which was also very important, after that I had extra time so thought let’s install Windows 11 Security Update.After that I put the window on download and window also got 100% downloaded, then when I started to install it,
it also went up to 99%.And then came that old scary message: Updates Failed. Undoing Changes. Don’t turn off your computer not 1 time, not 2 times, 3 times PC restarted itself.Every time 20 minutes wasted and doing this process more than one and a half hour of my time passed. My mood completely spoiled.
Because any person after working whole day when gets tired.And then is thinking about finishing his work. And then such a problem comes, which he had not expected.
Then mind getting spoiled is very natural.Every person will agree with my words who has gone through this. Whole night I remained in tension because I thought maybe Hard Disk itself has blown away. In the morning when I checked Twitter and Microsoft Community then I found I am not alone.
Thousands of people are struggling with Windows Error 0x800f0922. Someone’s work stopped, someone’s game closed in between.But don’t take tension.
I did 2 hours research, took help from AI Tools, and without spending 1 rupee I fixed my PC. Today I am telling the same complete method step‑by‑step.
Why does this Error 0x800f0922 come?
When I went to Microsoft’s Official Support Page 3 main reasons were told. I also checked on my PC then 2 reasons applied on me.
1.EFI System Partition having less space
In 80% cases EFI System itself is responsible this is a small hidden part inside Windows which is called EFI System Partition or ESP. In old PCs this was made only 100MB.
For Microsoft’s new Security Updates to install at least 15MB to 30MB free space is needed. And when I checked in my PC only 8.4MB was left. Reason?Old Fonts, Language Pack and useless Update Files accumulated in 5 years.
When I saw that window’s memory is filling. Then I said to myself? Said brother won’t take risk and stopped Update in between.
2.Windows Update Cache being corrupt
In 15% cases sometimes because of slow net or power cut it happens in which Update file remains in between. Then Windows cannot recognize it and fails.
3.VPN, Proxy or Firewall
In 5% cases this one was not with me, but happened with one of my friends. He does WFH which means Work From Home and his Company’s VPN always remains on.
And when he forgot to turn off his VPNAnd without turning off started updating security Files. Then Microsoft’s Server thought location has changed. So for security reason Update got blocked.
Good thing with him was that no Data Loss happened. But bad thing was that his PC got stuck in Restart Loop.
How did I fix it with AI’s help?In 3 steps
I am not any Tech Expert. But by asking ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot I followed these 3 steps. And yes, on my PC this worked 100%.
Step 1: Fix Windows Error 0x800f0922 by Resetting Cache
This step will fix 90% people’s work. This will delete bad Update files and Windows will start fresh. Press Windows Key on Keyboard and type CMD.
Right Click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator.
Now copy the whole Code Block given below together, paste in CMD with Ctrl + V and press Enter:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
What will happen with this?
With this first 4 lines will stop Update Service. Middle 2 lines will rename bad Cache. Last 4 lines will start Service again. When I applied this on my PC then Update started downloading again.
Step 2: Repair
If Windows Error 0x800f0922 is still there, repair .NET Framework. Many Windows Updates run on this. Press Win + R. Type optionalfeatures.exe in Boxand Enter. In List .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework
4.8 Advanced Services will be found. Remove tick from both > OK > PC Restart.
After Restart again come to same place and tick both back > OK > Restart.
This Process reinstalls .NET fresh. For one of my college friends it got fixed with this.
Step 3: Check VPN and Internet Connection
As told, if you use Nord VPN, Express VPN or Office VPN then before Update disconnect it. How? In Taskbar there will be VPN Icon, Right Click on it > Disconnect. Along with this also check that WiFi is Stable. If net goes in between Update then Error will come again.
My Bonus Pro Tip: How to increase space in EFI PartitionIf not fixed even after Step 1‑3 then 99% Chance is EFI Partition is full. Increasing this is little Technical. What did I do? First ran Disk Cleanup.Windows Search > Disk
Cleanup > Clean System Files > Select Windows Update Cleanup and cleaned 1.8GB.
After that I removed Language Pack which I don’t use.Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region and remove extra Language.
With this my EFI Partition got 20MB more free. And Update got installed.
Note: Increasing Partition Size is Risky. If don’t understand then get it done by some expert.
What is Microsoft’s Official Statement?
Microsoft admitted on its Q&A Forum in 2026 that “because of small EFI Partition in old devices this Error is coming”.
Company is saying they will send an Auto‑Fix tool in next Patch which will itself remove old files. Till then they have asked to use WindowsUpdate Troubleshooter. You can find it here:

My own experience?
No need to panic
Friends, 0x800f0922 sounds dangerous but actually it is Windows’ “Safety Feature”. If bad Update was forced to install then PC could have crashed.
With my above 3 steps my Update got completed by morning 10 o’clock.PC’s Speed also became like before.
